Racing to Nowhere

You know how sometimes…somedays…you feel like your going 100 mph only to get nowhere.  Excuse the pun, but that seems to be the situation with the “nascar” or “no just nascar sponsored” proposed, maybe racetrack in Pea Ridge…or Garfield…or McDonald County…or somewhere in this part of the world.

This is a rumor that has some legs to it but nothing else.  Two possibilities exists, #1, the group has put together a well thought out plan that includes a major racing venue and in order to prevent land speculators from driving up land costs, has instructed those involved to remain mum. #2, a couple of investors think this might work, have inquired about land, but true due diligence has not even begun.

In a growing economy, rumors and ideas will always surface.  Some are valid, many are not.  But ideas are healthy.  Don’t blame the mayor in Anderson for hoping its his city that gets the “track”.  However, don’t forget how many of these “laughable” things turn out to be true.  Yesterday I witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of the baseball stadium in Springdale.  And last week I saw the construction project underway for Crystal Bridges Art Museum in Bentonville.  The World Trade Center is open.  These were all “laughable” rumorts that, with variations, had legs to them.

In 2010, I can shop at the Promenade, watch a AA baseball game, visit an art museum, chase a white ball around on a Jack Nicholas designed course, and if time is left, watch cars drive around in circles.  All while going 100 mph
to get nowhere.
