Ethanol hits Northwest Arkansas, but at what price?
If you have a keen eye you may have noticed a few gas stations in our area now have up to 10% ethanol in their pumps. With the ever rising gas prices I thought it would be a welcome sign when we finally got ethanol. In the northern part of the country you are given a substantial discount if you buy gas with 10% ethanol. Here however I am noticing that there is little if any difference in price.
This could be caused by the rising cost of corn ironically due to the increased ethanol production. If this is the case you can keep your corn. Ethanol may be renewable if there was any way for us to grow enough corn to power our vehicles, however ethanol does not give as high of fuel economy in our vehicles. When you can’t get as far on one tank of gas that costs the same as it used to that is an increase in price. All the while food prices continue to rise because everything is directly connected to the corn price as well as the fuel price.
So ethanol? Give me a break - either charge me less or you can keep it.
