Grocery store owner offers building to Washington County for a bargain

Quorum Court Isle 5

Washington County Quorum Court has been in the process of locating a new building for nearly a year. They are now considering buying the Fulbright Building for $ 9 million but one land owner in the county has a different idea.

Charles Agee who has been quoted as saying “I don’t particularly care to own property in Northwest Arkansas” is generously offering to let his IGA building go for around half of the price of the Fulbright Building. Agee obviously is only looking out for the best interest of the county, not trying to cash in and get out.

The Quorum Court has said they are not interested in buying the grocery store and thank goodness.

Give me a break Agee, there is no reason that the court should be interested in your building. They would have to do major construction to make it into what they need when the Fulbright Building would require modest modifications if any. I understand that you want to sell your building and I have no problem with that but you are playing both sides of the fence.

You say that 5 years ago the county could have bought the Fulbright Building for only $1 million and it is outrageous to think they would give $9 million now. Let me ask you this sir what do you think your $4.5 million building was worth 5 years ago? I bet it wasn’t $4.5 million.

I can’t even believe this made the news. I believe the real story here is that if you would like to pay too much for a building you can call non-resident Agee and ask him to give you the same gift as he so graciously offered the county.
