Former Razorback Matt Jones (who is now a pro football player for those of you that don’t know) was arrested early today for possession of cocaine. The former star of Arkansas was allegedly cutting up the cocaine in the front seat of a vehicle when a police officer came to the window.

Now how sad is this story? All too often we see our heroes fall from grace in a tragic way but when it comes from a 25 year old former Razorback it hits a bit harder. Jones reportedly told the officers during interrogation that it was indeed cocaine so there is no doubt in my mind at this point.

I quite frankly cannot believe that people are able to make such stupid mistakes. Look I like Jones but come on how could he do this. There is a good chance that he has ended his career forever. Could this be something that a sports obsessed society causes by idolizing people when they are just kids? Yeah it could be, but for every Jones there are hundreds that do not fall under that pressure.

We wish him the best and hope that he gets the help that he needs to kick his habit. All of you sports moms and dads out there need to listen closely to these types of stories. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best and thinking your child is the best, but you have to keep them grounded. You have to teach them right from wrong even when they grow up in a world where that line is blurred.

Who knows maybe we will see Matt Jones Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership after he serves his jail time. The public does have a short memory after all.
