12 Days of Made in the USA Christmas

There are many things that can be done. You can start saving a part of your paycheck instead of spending every last penny. I know it feels like you can’t but even a dollar a week will add up. Even if you save you can’t put it anywhere right? That isn’t true - put your savings in a good local bank and don’t worry. The FDIC insures all of your money up to $100,000 and they are increasing that to $250,000 until 2010. There is something else that can be done though that will have a much more profound difference and that is buy goods made right here in the USA.

Now you might think that made in the USA is a thing of the past and I am crazy for even suggesting it. That is partly true. I am not sure that I could find a TV for example that is made in the USA and I know that the computer I am using right now has little to no made in the USA parts. Here is the rub though, our dollar is weak and we all want to have good jobs. That is right our dollar is weak and even though gas prices are plummeting we still have a real issue. As for jobs, we cannot survive on services alone.

Next time you are in a department store make an effort to see where what you are buying is from. I was a bit surprised when I started doing this several months ago because 99% of what I picked up was made in China. I am not saying that it is terrible to have a global economy or that I won’t buy anything from China but I would like to buy as much as I can from us or our great friends. Try to by an umbrella for example - I couldn’t find one not made in the USA. If you know of any great items made in the USA send them on in and I will put them up here.

So where do we find products made in the USA? That has been a great question of mine so I am going to start featuring products made in the USA right here on this site.
