Your Wearing the Wrong Make-Up

If you are wearing the same foundation you were 5 years ago —YOU’RE WEARING THE WRONG FOUNDATION!! As we age, our skin’s needs change, The color of your skin, even your skin type changes, as often as, seasonally. I’m drier in the winter and wouldn’t dream of wearing a heavy moisturizing foundation in the summer. Plus, technology is ever changing!

Now, there are unlimited choices in formulas of foundations (aka base) … liquids, creams, powders, powder creams, loose minerals, pressed minerals..foundations that are firming , oil controlling , luminating, age defying, long wearing, moisturizing.

What type of coverage do you need? Sheer , light, medium, full.. Unless you have a serious skin problem you DO NOT need a full coverage make up!

Then you have to know about shades. Is Lt Beige in one brand the same as in another. NO!! The colors even vary by formulas. Do you need warm undertones or cool undertones? What about foundations with gray undertones? NEVER assume you know your color without testing it …properly. It is a good idea to double check every time you go in to buy a new one.

Savvy fashionistas have different foundations for different parts of the day or occasions - a fuller coverage for “going out” and another for day use. Don’t you hate seeing that lady at your kid’s ball game with thick sweaty makeup — save that for the club honey! A great day look for the summer is a tinted moisturizer – with sunscreen – and a bronzer.

First and foremost - take care of your skin - so you don’t HAVE to pile on the foundation. Proper skin care INCLUING SUNBLOCK is integral to great looking makeup.

Here are some tips for finding the right foundation for you:

When choosing a line (or brand), go to one that has many different varieties . Skip the dollar store for this one. Think of your foundation as part of your skin care. Skimp on your lipstick or blush - but not on the products put directly to your face!! Go see a professional at the department store or your local Merle Norman (or your friendly make up artist …like me)!

Never match color on your hand or wrist… are you kidding? Match color on your jawline - make 3 stripes of 3 colors. When one disappears – that’s your shade.

Be sure it has a sunscreen (SPF)!!

If you MUST tan this summer and know your color will be changing, use a bronzer during the transition until you settle into a shade. Or…. buy a very dark liquid concealer and add a few drops to your base to customize your color as your skin darkens. (FYI – tan skin is a symptom of damaged skin).

Application tips:

Apply with a brush to save product - blend with a sponge .

The pores on your face point down. For years we were told to apply with up strokes . If you do this you’re shoving foundation in your pores– NOT COOL!! Apply with down strokes. Don’t apply any lower than below the cheeks(ish). Then use your sponge to blend to the edges of your face so the color gradually fades.

So, go NOW! Get a free consultation at your favorite make – up counter…. Happy Shopping!
